Why does MetaMask not show full balance? ›

Check that your internet connection is strong and stable. If not, MetaMask may be unable to load the correct balances. Close down your browser where you have the MetaMask extension installed and open it again.

MetaMask is a flexible tool that can be used in numerous ways. One facet of this is that there's nothing stopping you from using MetaMask on multiple devices, with multiple Secret Recovery Phrases and private keys.

Only for Ethereum and ETH-based tokens: One of the biggest cons that are apparent when using MetaMask is the fact that the wallet in question only stores Ethereum, and Ethereum-based tokens (ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1150). Meaning, you aren't able to store any other cryptocurrencies on the wallet - not ideal!

Don't share your Secret Recovery Phrase and private keys

Anyone who has your Secret Recovery Phrase or private keys can control your assets, and therefore send tokens out of your accounts. Never share them with anyone, including the MetaMask team or anyone claiming to represent us.

Why isn't MetaMask safe? ›

Online. The wallet is online, so it's more at risk than hardware wallets or offline “cold” wallets. Like any “hot” wallet, assets stored on Metamask can be compromised via security vulnerabilities on your device or internet connection.

To transfer assets from one account to another, you will need to pay some gas fees, as these transactions are occurring on-chain. Depending on the amount you own in assets and the contracts storing or managing those assets, this can become costly.

Your Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP) is a unique 12-word phrase that is generated when you first set up MetaMask. Your funds are connected to that phrase. If you ever lose your password, your SRP allows you to recover your wallet and your funds.

Click on the 3 horizontal lines icon on top left of the app. Click on the drop down arrow next to "Account", and choose from the list of accounts the one you would like to use.

Are several MetaMask accounts linked? Addresses are not in any way linked to one another. They can link the different addresses if they have access to your mnemonic phrase, extended private key, or extended public key, but you should never give this information out.

Avoid using MetaMask on Android

There is a higher security risk when using the Android applications you've downloaded. This is because Android is an open source operating system and therefore there are thousands of applications which available on the app store.

Create a new MetaMask wallet on the new browser, browser profile, or mobile device. Write down the Secret Recovery Phrase in the correct order and store it someplace safe. Never give it to anyone. Go back to the compromised account and send any remaining funds to the newly created account.

When you buy crypto in MetaMask, you're not buying crypto with or from MetaMask: you're buying with the provider you choose. If you want to manage any personal information that the providers hold, you must access the provider's platform directly, log into your account, and make the changes there.

If you've been a victim of these malicious attacks, there may be a way to recover your funds. MetaMask has partnered with Asset Reality to enhance customer support by providing direct access to a third-party who can investigate, track, trace, and potentially attempt to recover funds.

Unless you also post your secret keys or have some means for an attacker to know it, the information in your wallet is safe.

The worst that can happen is they gain access to your browser an steal the seed phrase losing control of your wallet. I'll recommend to change the password, check if there's malware in your computer.

Can someone access my MetaMask account? ›

Keep in mind however that the seed phrase is essentially a verbal representation of the private key, allowing you to restore access to the account. In other words, if someone gets hold of your seed phrase, they will be able to log in to your account and get their hands on your cryptocurrency.

Never share your MetaMask account information with anyone. This includes your username and password, your email, or your seed phrase (Secret Recovery Phrase). Change your password regularly. Also, don't use a password that you use with other applications or cryptocurrency platforms.

Without it, you won't be able to get access to your wallet when you reinstall. If you do this, bear in mind: This will not delete the account, but just stop it being visible in MetaMask: once created, your address is permanently on the blockchain and cannot be removed.

"MetaMask" email scam overview

If the verification is not completed until a specific date, the wallet will be restricted. The button/link presented in these letters redirect to a phishing website disguised as a MetaMask page. This webpage requests users to provide their wallet keyword phrase.

How do I remove duplicate MetaMask? ›

It is currently impossible to remove created accounts — the ones that appear as 'Account 2' etc. when you click 'Create Account'. If you really want to remove them, you will need to remove MetaMask from your device (Extension or Mobile), reinstall, and then restore using your Secret Recovery Phrase.

Open your MetaMask wallet and click on the three dots in the top right corner. Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Reset Account". Enter your password when prompted and click on "Reset Account" again.

Despite swapping out proof-of-work, the entire history of Ethereum since genesis remained intact and unaltered by the transition to proof-of-stake. Any funds held in your wallet before The Merge are still accessible after The Merge. No action is required to upgrade on your part.

MetaMask includes a self-custodial (also commonly referred to as non-custodial) cryptocurrency and token wallet. It gives you complete control of your access keys and therefore your assets. 'Self-custodial' refers to the fact that it's you ('self') who holds your wallet's private key(s).
